ENABEL — Belgian Development Cooperation
Fort Portal City hosts a regional office for ENABEL, the Belgian development agency, which has worked in the wider Rwenzori and Albertine region for years, coordinating projects across health, education, and skills development. Dedicated Health and Education regional office was established in Fort Portal in 2016, and the City remains a key coordination hub for ENABEL’s activities across Western Uganda.
Key Areas of Support
- Strengthening institutional management and improving school infrastructure, supporting institutions such as Fort Portal College of Health Sciences
- Coordinating Skilling Uganda strategy implementation for the Rwenzori/Albertine region from its Fort Portal office, supporting local training providers such as St. Joseph Technical Institute, Fort Portal
- Building healthcare worker capacity, including supporting midwives and clinical officers at Fort Portal-area health facilities with specialized diploma training.
- Researching deforestation and community conservation efforts around Kibale National Park and the wider Fort Portal region.
