Legal Sector

The Legal Sector protects Fort Portal City’s interests, offering legal guidance to City leadership, drafting and reviewing contracts, and ensuring Council decisions and operations stay within the law.
Our Mission
The Legal Sector exists to give Fort Portal City sound, high-quality legal advice and representation as it carries out the business of local government. Rather than simply stepping in once problems arise, the office’s focus leans heavily toward proactive counsel, offering preventive guidance and early intervention so City decision-makers always have a clear picture of their lawful options before acting.

This includes guiding the City’s internal corporate affairs; advising staff and City organs, such as the Physical Planning Committee, the Contracts Committee, and the political and policy wings of Council, on their statutory and regulatory obligations; representing the City’s interests in litigation before Uganda’s Courts of Judicature and other adjudicating bodies; and joining cross-functional teams formed from time to time to work through new challenges facing the City.
