North Division was formed from the former West Division of Fort Portal Municipality, together with Karambi and Bukuuku sub-counties and Karago Town Council, areas annexed into Fort Portal when it was elevated to city status in July 2020. The division carries much of the city’s rural and agricultural character, with farming remaining central to livelihoods across its wards.

Alongside Central Division, North Division forms part of Fort Portal’s 22 wards and 206 villages, spread across a combined area of roughly 120 square kilometres.

North Division is led by its own Division Town Clerk, responsible for administration and coordinating City services across the division’s wards and communities.
