UGIFT — Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program
UGIFT is a Government of Uganda initiative, funded by the World Bank and other partners, designed to improve equitable and effective service delivery in education, health, water and environment, and agriculture across the country. The program works to correct inequities in how fiscal transfers reach different Local Governments, while strengthening how those resources are managed at the local level.
What UGIFT Supports
- Construction and upgrading of seed secondary schools and primary school facilities, along with expanded science laboratories and textbook provision.
- Upgrading health centres to Health Centre III standard and improving water access for underserved communities
- Support for micro-scale irrigation, benefiting local agricultural productivity
- Strengthened financial management and accountability systems within Local Governments, including Fort Portal City
