USMID — Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development
USMID is a World Bank-funded program implemented by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, designed to strengthen institutional performance and improve urban service delivery across Uganda’s major municipalities and cities, Fort Portal among them.
Under USMID, Fort Portal City has undertaken major road infrastructure works, with contracts awarded to firms including China Railway 18 Bureau Group Company Limited for road construction and rehabilitation projects across the City. The program has driven visible transformation, well-marked roads, improved walkways, and rising property values as infrastructure investment has taken hold across the town.
USMID has since evolved into a follow-on program benefiting ten Ugandan cities, including Fort Portal, consolidating the gains made under the original initiative and expanding sustainable urban development further.
